RED CARPET NOMINATIONS TEAM HARD AT WORK

Gaile Patterson, Angela McEwan, April Montgomery, Carmen Scott, and Jonny Lewis have been hard at work sending out news releases, distributing emails and making phone calls in stretching a wide net to inspire nominations for deserving organizations and individuals for WIT's 5th annual Red Carpet Awards.

According to Red Carpet producer, Trish Ostroski, there are more than 10,000 registered arts organization in LA county alone.

"Some of those organizations are not involved with the live theatrical arts, but you can add churches, schools and many informal organizations that would not even be considered in that number to begin with and organizations whose mission is not arts related, but who assist in the arts by developing scholarships for the arts and/or community programming which provides a number of arts opportunities. In greater Los Angeles there are truly a number of people and groups doing a wide range of amazing things. We encourage everybody to nominate some organization or person with an extensive track record of involvement and support."

Behind the Scenes for the RC

At the initial Red Carpet Awards in 2004, actress Beverly Garland praised WIT in stating the Grand Ballroom at the Beverly Garland Holiday Inn and never looked so good as it did on that day.

Much of aesthetics and decor go on in the background. This year Angela McEwan is handling a new approach to display photos of the awardees and is hard at work on working on ideas for that display that will add some flair to the event.

Former WIT president, Mari Martin, has been highly involved in table decor since the initial event. With a generous contribution of time and money Marji developed a lovely centerpiece that was used for the first four years. This year she is at work in developing a new centerpiece design that will add to the warmth of the room.

Red Carpet Producer, Trish Ostroski, noted that "we are lucky to have such talent and interest on board in Angie and Marji. We hope to incorporate others talents as well to make this event a top notch success."

Cate Caplin to Be Award Presenter at 5th Annual Red Carpet Awards

CATE CAPLIN has produced, directed and choreographed over 100 productions in Los Angeles and internationally at the Edinburgh Arts Festival in Scotland. She is a 34 times regional and international dance champion, and has performed on television, in films and in a variety of prestigious venues including the White House, the Kennedy Center, the Metropolitan Opera House, Ford's Theatre, the Hollywood Bowl, the Paris Opera House, Rockefeller Center, the Ritz Carlton, Caesar's Palace, the Hollywood Palladium, the Los Angeles Theatre Center, the Orpheum Theatre, the House of Blues, Palace of Fine Arts, Shanghai Sports Arena and the Broadway stage.

Cate is also a freelance journalist and coaches and instructs both dancers and actors. She coached David Hyde Pierce for 9 months in preparation for his play "Six Dance Lessons" at the Geffen Playhouse, intensely once again before taking off for New York in “Spamalot” and most recently in preparation for his starring role in "Curtains" which ran on Broadway. (David won a 2007 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his performance and gave Cate credit in his acceptance speech.)

Cate performed in the West Coast Premier of Swing! at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center and won an Ovation Award for her work. She was awarded a Garland Award for her choreography in Grand Hotel at the Colony Theatre and Women In Theatre honored her in 2004 with a Red Carpet Award for her work as a Director/Producer.

Cate has garnered 5 “US Open” titles in Theatrical Showdance and she is a multiple Gold Medalist and World Champion with dance partner Gary Franco. Her production company, Night & Day Entertainment, is shared with creative partner Vernon Willet and specializes in custom designed entertainment for corporate events, industrial trade shows and private parties. Cate recently wrote and directed her first feature film, "KILLER MOVES", which is scheduled for release in the near future.

RC producer Trish Ostroski said "we are always so happy to have Cate as part of our Red Carpet tradition. She has assisted WIT in a variety of ways and she loves to come and be involved in the Red Carpet and we love having her. Cate is such a great talent and I encourage everyone to see her dance in person and if not in person check out her dancing clips on her website www.catecaplin.com. Be in for a treat that is athletic, graceful and beautiful. I consider Cate to be the Kevin Bacon of the live theatrical arts in Los Angeles since with her diverse career she has connected with so many and made such as impact. We encourage all WIT members to attend the Red Carpet and meet Cate."
