Originally from Seattle, DARBY
CAHILL came to Los Angeles in 2002, where she earned degrees
in both Public Relations and Theatre with a minor in
Public Management at USC. After graduation, Darby worked
in event planning and publicity at NBC Universal until
2007 when she became the Managing Director of the Lyric
Theatre, a brand new 99-seat black box on La Brea Avenue.
As Managing Director, Darby contributes to many aspects
of theatrical production, from box office to set construction
to publicity, event planning, assistant directing and
so much more. Darby is also Program Director for the
La Brea Barnstormers, a summer theatre camp for at-risk
youth supported by the Lyric Theatre Foundation. July
2008 marked the second year of the program, which doubled
in size after its inaugural year. Participants in the
La Brea Barnstormers are from many walks of life; all
come from low-income homes, more than half are in the
foster care system and some have parents incarcerated
in state or federal prison. The La Brea Barnstormers
program gives these children (ages 6-13) the opportunity
to express themselves in a safe environment through
the production and performance of a full-scale musical.
Darby is extremely passionate about the impact that
theatre can have on a young person's confidence level
and hopes to continue the La Brea Barnstormers program
for years to come. She would like to thank the Women
in Theatre for this amazing award, all of the staff
at the Lyric and her wonderfully supportive family.
