An all-volunteer organization, PASADENA
SHOWCASE HOUSE FOR THE ARTS (PSHA) is a non-profit
California Corporation whose
members
donate
their time
and talents to produce the annual Pasadena Showcase
House of Design. Founded in 1948, they adopted the
Pasadena Showcase House of Design as their annual benefit
in 1965. It is one of the oldest, largest and most
successful house and garden tours in the United States.
The proceeds support outstanding music and arts programs
throughout the community. Cumulatively, over $16 million
has been awarded in gifts and grants.
In addition to their Gifts and Grants program, PSHA
produces three annual music programs: an Instrumental
Competition for students ages 16 to 24 which awards
monetary prizes to assist with their music education;
the Music Mobile™ which visits third grade students
and presents a hands-on introduction to orchestral
music; and the Youth Concert held at Walt Disney Concert
Hall in partnership with the LA Philharmonic Association
which ingeniously weaves musical concepts into an appealing
story line that is filled with humor and fun. In addition
to superb performances by the orchestra, often actors,
choirs, dancers, and sound effects are utilized to
enhance the theatricality.
With an active membership of approximately seventy
members the PSHA volunteers approach each year
with creativity and organizational skills that
are awe
inspiring. They are always mindful of the enormous
need, of the
programs that depend on them for funding, and that
their work enriches lives of all in the community.
