In its 78-year history, NINE
O’CLOCK PLAYERS THEATRE FOR CHILDREN has
never missed a season, producing more than 2,900
performances. Founded in 1929 by a group of
Assistance League of Southern California members, Nine
O’Clock Players Theatre for Children raised funds
for Assistance League’s Day Nursery, which provided
day care to the children of employees working at nearby
studios. Assistance League of Southern California, a
nonprofit organization founded in 1919, serves more than
100,000 children, families, seniors and individuals with
critical needs each year.
Today, Nine O’Clock Players Theatre for Children
is supported and operated by volunteer members of Nine
O’Clock Players Auxiliary, who present two fully
staged musicals in the fall and spring of each year.
Productions are performed for more than 16,000 children
annually -- a third of whom are disadvantaged. Nine O’Clock
Players provide free admission and transportation.
Weekly performances are also staged for groups of Los
Angeles area school children at a reduced price. On
weekends, the general public can enjoy them for $12
per ticket.
All funds received from the productions support Assistance
League of Southern California services and the continual
development of musical theatre for children of Los
Angeles.
